Lady Jays take second at regionals

The Lady Jays came away with a second place showing with 153.50 points in the track regional at Edmond North and trailed only Altus who finished with 180 team points to win the regional championship. Deer Creek was third with a score of 92.50.

The 5A State Tournament is up next for the ladies and will be held Friday and Saturday at Tulsa East Central High School.

Freshmen phenom Rosetta Galbraith and senior Rachel Roberts came away as the big winners for the Lady Jays, but will send multiple athlete’s to State.

Roberts won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs and did so in a big way. She won the 1600 by 14 seconds over the next runner and 37 seconds in the 3200. Roberts also ran a 2:30.80 in the 800 meter and fell short of Duncan’s Danielle st. Clair’s time of 2:29.96.

Galbraith won both the 100 and 200 meter races along with the 100 meter hurdles. She ran a 12.70 in the 100 meter dash and was .15 quicker than second place. In the 200, she edged out Deer Creek’s Kirsten Burrett by the slimmest margin of .02. Galbraith won the hurdle race by a margin of .55 with a dash of 15.96.

Erika Guerrero also put together a fine day at the track and qualified to run the 100 meter and pole vault at the state meet.

Guerrero ran a 13.33 in the 100 meter and was the fourth quickest. She leaped the highest in the pole vault with a jump of 9-00 and right behind her in the pole was teammate Charle King’s 08-06. Finishing fourth was Ashley Watkins and she will join Guerrero and King at state.

Kyra Macedo ran a 51.42 in the 300 meter hurdles and was good enough for third place.

Galbraith, Guerrero, Leslie Hughes, and Alexis Daniels posted a 50.76 in the 4 x 100 relay and fell just short of Altus who ran a 50.17.

In the field events, Hughes came away with top honors in the high jump with a jump of 5-00 and following her in third place was Daniels’ 04-08.

Daniels and Hughes switched roles in the long jump. Daniels came away with a first place leap of 15-10.25  and Hughes third with a reading of 15-05.50.

Erin Perring qualified for the state meet in the shot put and discus. In the shot she threw 35-01 for fourth overall and in the discus tossed a 107-01 for second place.
