“I’m truly gonna [sic] miss her when I graduate” and “I always feel safe with her.” Those are some of the statements that two Guthrie High School students made about their teacher Laura Porter.
Kameran Brooks and Morgan Mayberry went to school staff and nominated Mrs. Porter, a special education teacher, as the December Certified Employee of the Month for Guthrie Public Schools.
“I think Mrs. Porter should get teacher of the month because of how caring and loving she is to her students,” Morgan said.
Morgan said Mrs. Porter has helped her with understanding finances and math.
“She’s always told us to follow our dreams. She’s always been there for her students.”
Morgan continued, “There was never a day I didn’t wanna go to her class. She always had a smile on her face.”
Morgan added that Mrs. Porter should receive the recognition “because of how well she teaches, touches her students’ hearts and works hard every day.”
Kameran said Mrs. Porter does more for others outside of the classroom.
“She makes sure her students are not going hungry. I always feel safe with her.”
Support Staff Employee of the Month
Edward Robles goes beyond on what is required of him, according to Anita Paul who nominated Robles for the Support Staff Employee of the Month.
“He doesn’t just clean what is on his list, he cleans whatever needs to be cleaned,” Paul said.
She continued, “Edward also brightens everyone’s day. He always has a smile on his face and does his best to put a smile on all of our faces.”
Robles helps overlook the administration building along with Faver and Guthrie High School.
Robles recently gifted school officials with poinsettias for the holidays.
“He goes out of his way to be a good human being.”
The December 2021 Support and Certified employees of the month for Guthrie Public Schools were presented with a plaque and a $25 Sonic gift card from the Lions Club.
