Layout and photos of new elemetary school revealed at board meeting

School board members saw a glimpse of the proposed layout and rendering of the entry for a new elementary school in southern Logan County during Monday’s regular meeting.

Stacy Group Architects went over some of the current details they are working on for the new school, which is expected to see construction beginning in early spring of 2017.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson says the layout comes after meeting with a committee of staff members, including elementary principals and representatives of the teaching staff from each elementary school.

The architect said the 50,000 square foot building, which will be built at 4900 E. Charter Oak Rd., will feature 21 classrooms to go along with a gymnasium that will also serve as a storm shelter.

With possible future growth, designers have left the option of adding onto the school to the west, if needed.

The group is searching for more details on services to the building, including the lagoon system, fire service protection and gas.

Officials say Rural Water District No. 1 will not provide fire service to the building’s sprinkler service. The group is looking at their options of a backup system, including a fire storage tank.

The building is being funded by the successful bond issue passed in May 2015.
