Library director accepts same position in Nevada

Guthrie Public Library’s Director Cyndi O has accepted a similar position in Winnemucca, Nevada. O will assume her new responsibilities for the Humboldt County Library beginning on Nov. 16.

“We all felt good about her as the choice,”  Leanne Autrey, Humboldt County Library’s current Assistant Director, told News 4 Nevada.

“I’ll be director of a county system in Nevada. I’m thrilled about the opportunity and new challenge. Just wish I could take everyone here (Guthrie) with me!” O said.

O held Guthrie’s director position since Dec. 2011.

“I can’t express how grateful I am for the opportunity to serve Guthrie and Logan County,” O said in social media post.

“This community has been my family for the last four years and they will always be dear to my heart. It’s been an honor and privilege to work alongside an amazing and exemplary library and City staff. Thank you so, so much.”

Guthrie News Page met up with O, who legally changed her name from Selinger, prior to her arrival in which she set a goal of adding eBooks which she successfully added the following year (2012).

In addition, O pioneered and administered many successful programs such as Get Fit for Fines, the “Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma!” book club, the Summer Reading Program for Adults. She also wrote and received a children’s grant worth over $17,000, and was well-known in the community through her involvement in civic groups and in hosting booths at local events such as the ‘89er Days Celebration and Make Guthrie Weird. Under her direction, the library recently launched a new website and acquired a new 3D printer for which classes will be offered this month.

“She will be very missed by staff and community members alike, and we wish her the very best,” Guthrie City Manager Bruce Johnson said.

The Nevada news agency reports O will start her new position at a base salary of $81,639.91 plus benefits.

“After the interviews we reviewed our score sheets and picked the top three. It was simple — Cyndi was top for all of us,” Humboldt County co-chair Mary Beene said. “We think she will be a great fit and will really promote the library.”
