Lions Fish Fry to support college scholarships

For the last seven years the Guthrie Lions Club has raised money to support two $1,000 college scholarships for deserving Guthrie High School seniors through its annual fish fry.

This year the fish fry will be held on Friday, August 21 at the American Legion Post. Tasty fish and all the trimmings will be served both at lunch (11am-1pm) and dinner (5pm-7pm). The club is asking for a $7 donation ($5 for children under 10) for this “all you care to eat” fish bonanza.

Richard Ireton, fish fry chairman, noted, “The club members catch, prepare and serve these tasty morsels of fish each year in order to help college bound high school seniors from Guthrie. It gives us great pride to support these young men and women on their quest for a college degree. It is part of our service to our community!”

Lion Barry Anderson (the Fish Fry Master) added, “Come join the Guthrie Lions for great food, wonderful conversation and the opportunity for very special fellowship. Bring the whole family. It is spectacular food for a very special cause.”

The Guthrie Noon Lions Club meets every Friday at noon at the Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall on Noble Ave. Each week, in addition to a wonderful meal and meaningful fellowship, a special guest presentation is made, generally focusing on a program, process or activity that directly affects our community and our lives.

Membership is open to all who want to make a difference, to all who want “to serve”. For more information concerning Lions and the Guthrie Noon Lions Club please contact Sylvia Ochs at 405-641-1830.
