Man taken to jail for second-degree murder; 3-year-old killed in car crash

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is hoping witnesses can help them with an investigation involving the death of a 3-year-old child following a vehicle accident on Interstate 35.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 14 around 2:30 a.m. a white 2008 Dodge Avenger four-door was northbound on Interstate 35 south of East 2nd Avenue in Edmond. For an unknown reason, the vehicle departed the roadway to the right and overturned. As a result of the collision, the child in the Dodge was killed.

“For whatever reason the driver of the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and the vehicle overturn. We’re still trying to piece together exactly why he went off the road,” OHP Captain Paul Timmons said.

The driver, Xavier Trevon Ware, 20, of Moore, was identified as the driver of the Dodge.

The mother of the child, Alexis Tasha Ware, 24, and the child were both passengers.

A witness to the collision immediately called 911 but before the arrival of first responders, Trevon and Alexis Ware found the child, who had been ejected from the vehicle, and left the scene on foot.

Approximately one hour later Xavier and Alexis flagged down a motorist in Logan County requesting assistance for the child. OHP along with Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies and Guthrie Fire Department responded to find the child unresponsive. The child was transported to Mercy Logan County Hosptial where the male child was pronounced dead.

OHP troopers took Trevon Ware into custody, he refused to provide a sample of his blood and troopers obtained a search warrant and a sample was obtained.

“We have indicators there may possibly been alcohol involved in this collision,” Timmons said.

Trevon Ware was transported to the Oklahoma County Jail for murder in the second degree and child endangerment DUI.

OHP needs any witnesses who observed the collision or observed two adults carrying a child to call 405-425-2323.
