Man with sexual abuse history arrested for filming under age child

An Edmond man, who has been convicted of sexual crimes in the past, is now accused of videoing his teenage stepdaughter while in the shower. The victim says she was so scared of her stepdad, that she keeps two knifes in her bedroom to protect herself.

A Guthrie Public School Resource Officer notified the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 6 that a 13-year-old female notified a school counselor that her stepfather filmed her while she took a shower.

According to court documents, James Curt Rose, 43, woke his stepdaughter up so she could take a shower and get ready for school. While taking a shower, the victim says she looked over a sleeve that was hanging on the wall, which is used to help bathe a small child in the tub. She says she spotted a hole that was cut out in the sleeve and as she looked closer she could see a phone in the sleeve and that it was recording.

The victim says she removed the phone and deleted the video. Afterwards, she went through the phone to see if there were any other videos or pictures. She told investigators the phone belonged to Rose.

Detectives went to Rose’s place of employment in Guthrie and asked to see his phone. The phone matched the description as described by the victim. The phone was immediately seized by authorities and Rose signed a consent form to have the cellphone forensically analyzed.

On Jan. 14, the phone was returned from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations, along with a flash drive, which showed a young, nude female in the shower.

The following week, detectives inspected the home and recognized the shower as the one in the pictures extracted from Rose’s phone. In addition, they found the sleeve with a homemade hole big enough to fit a cellphone.

The young victim identified herself in the edited photos and immediately put her head in her hands and began to cry, according to court papers.

Rose was formally arraigned on one count of child pornography after two convictions on Wednesday. A Logan County judge issued a $75,000 bond and ordered Rose not to have any contact with the victim or any person under the age of 18. If convicted, Rose could face four years to life imprisonment and a $25,000 fine.

Rose has a convicted history of sexual abuse, including a guilty plea in 2001 to second degree rape. He was given a five-year sentence with 90 days in the county jail.

In 2003, Rose pleaded no contest to sexual battery. He was convicted and sentenced to four years with the Department of Corrections (DOC) and register as a sex offender.

In 2004, he pleaded guilty to assault and battery and in the same year was convicted for failing to register as a sex offender. He was ordered to 10 years with DOC and 120 days in the county jail.
