If you lived in Guthrie and needed a tooth looked at, had a question concerning the community or perhaps you had a question about the 18th green, then you likely knew James Seamans.
Seamans, 73, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2012. He leaves behind his wife, Karen Seamans, of 34 years.
Seamans moved to Guthrie in 1969 and opened his dentist practice after earning Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Baylor College of Dentistry. Before that, the All-State high school baseball player attended Oklahoma University, where he played baseball.
He was an outdoorsman and loved golfing with his sons and friends, fishing and hunting with his brother Tommy and watching OU football.
The news of his sudden passing stunned many, but they quickly reflected back on “Doc”.
“One of my favorite people. Got to play golf with him last time he played and all he talked about was excitement with all the good stuff happening,” Bill Brassard said.
Over the course of his life, Seamans was a pillar of the community who served numerous boards and civic organizations in Guthrie.
“He was a great man that did indeed care about and support our community. He will be missed by many,” Jerred Young said.
Funeral services will be held at First Christian Church in Guthrie on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. Visitation will be Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
