Mercy Hospital Logan County named among Top 20 critical access hospital

Mercy Hospital Logan County was recently named one of the top 20 critical access hospitals (CAHs) for quality and patient satisfaction in the country.

The top 20 CAHs scored highest for quality among CAHs as determined by the Chartis Center for Rural Health. The rankings were recently announced by the National Rural Health Association.

Mercy Hospital Kingfisher and Mercy Hospital Tishomingo also made the list.

All three hospitals are 25-bed critical access facilities serving their surrounding communities. Each hospital features a 24/7 emergency department, inpatient nursing, swing beds and a variety of other health services for patients.

“Each of these hospitals is a vital part of three communities across Oklahoma that otherwise would likely not have access to health care close to home,” said Bobby Stitt, administrator of Mercy Hospital Kingfisher and Mercy Hospital Logan County. “This award proves Kingfisher, Guthrie and Tishomingo can count on Mercy to deliver the kind of safe, high-quality care they have come to expect.”

Increased access to health care has been crucial throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, with health care workers stretched thin and open beds scarce during surges of the virus. Mercy’s critical access hospitals in Kingfisher, Logan County and Tishomingo made it possible to care for more patients at a time when their local communities were in unprecedented need.

“We feel so proud to be a part of these communities and so connected to our patients, who truly are our friends and neighbors,” said Lori McMillin, administrator of Mercy Hospital Tishomingo. “This award represents the exceptional, compassionate care our co-workers provide for each patient. They should be commended for their dedication.”

The top 20 critical access hospitals have achieved success in overall performance based on a composite rating from eight indices of strength: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge and finance. This group was selected from the Chartis Center for Rural Health’s 2022 top 100 CAH list, which was released earlier this year. Five of Mercy’s critical access hospitals across its four-state region were among the top 20 for quality, including Mercy Hospital Booneville and Mercy Hospital Paris in Arkansas.
