Motorcyclist airlifted after avoiding albino deer on 5th Street bridge

A motorcyclist was airlifted to a Oklahoma City hospital on Thursday night after avoiding an albino deer on the 5th Street bridge on Guthrie’s west side.

Emergency crews responded to the bridge after 8 p.m. and found the injured man on the ground.

At the scene, officials say the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on 5th Street when the deer darted out in front of the motorcycle. The biker was able to avoid driving into the deer, but lost control of the bike and skid several yards on the road.

Guthrie EMS treated the victim at the scene for a head wound and transported him to Logan County Mercy Hospital where he was taken by helicopter to OU Medical Center.

A police officer with the Guthrie Police Department said the victim was not wearing a helmet.

Albino deer are often spotted at the Cottonwood Creek near 5th Street.
