Some Guthrie residents say they have been hearing them for months, but a number of residents heard them for the first time Wednesday evening. We’re talking about booms.
It is uncertain what or where the “booms” are coming from, but several locals have hit social media to make sure they were not the only ones to hear it and where they are coming from.
The Guthrie Police Department fielded two calls on Wednesday – one on the west side of town and on the city’s northeast side. One officer, while in the area of the east side call, heard one of the booms out his window. However, was unable to locate the source.
The booms have been heard around the Liberty Lake area as well.
Witnesses say the sound is like an explosion. At first, some believed an electric transformer from the above electric lines had popped, but that was not the case. Guthrie News Page checked with OG&E and they have had no reports of power outages in the area.
Perhaps, we may never know where the booms are coming from, or from what. Apparently, this has happen to another town according to a Catoosa, Okla. resident.
One reader, on the Guthrie News Page Facebook site, says the same booms were heard in his town a month or so ago. The booms were so loud that it shook his house and rattled the windows.
To this day, it remains a mystery in his town.
While the majority are searching for answers on the booms, some have come up with their own source of the booms, including home-made pipe bombs, underground wells, gun shots, and one reader believed his music was to loud creating too much bass.
Whatever the cause of the booms are locals want to know the source, but perhaps it will remain a mystery.
My inlaws live off hwy 105 and they said a few months back it sounded like an explosion right out side. She said it shook her house and raddled her windows as well. Seriously no one knows the source of these explosions?…… Creepy…..
I heard four distinct booms New Year’s Eve. I live downtown. I thought they were gunshots and appeared to come from the West Side. They sounded close to the Cottonwood Creek area.
Then again last night, Jan 2, I heard two large booms and then later a very large boom. The last one sounded more like a cannon going off.
Out near out neighborhood a while back they had set up a bunch of seismographing stuff, wires and poles and such for miles, draped along sides the roads. My dh told me that they measure vibrations in the ground after they set of an explosive. This may have something to do with it, may not. There are still orange cords and tubes lining up and down the sides of the roads out here so they are still working on something somewhere.
That was my guess, They are setting off the booms using the Big trucks that generate Sonic Waves focused on the ground to find oil and gas..
