You are invited to attend a town hall meeting next Monday, January 23 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Waterloo Road Baptist Church, 3100 E. Waterloo Road.
Local elected officials are also invited to attend. This provides them an opportunity to communicate with our residents and take a few questions. Officials who have confirmed attendance include Edmond/ North Eastern Oklahoma County State Representative Lewis Moore and Logan County Sheriff Jim Bauman. Also attending is Stuart Jolly, the of Director of the Oklahoma chapter of Americans for Prosperity. Both Bauman and Jolly have spoken at past town hall meetings and their presentations are interesting and informative. This will be Moore’s first time to attend and I am looking forward to introducing him.
As always, each guest speaker will speak for about ten minutes and the meeting will be moderated by Rose State Professor John Wood. Wood has been a leader in the effort to enact ethics reform in state government and has moderated these meetings since the 2007 legislative interim. Wood will ensure the meeting is professionally conducted and will conclude the meeting no later than 8:30, so that most attendees can be back home by 9:00.
Polling Place Changes
In the upcoming months, there will be three elections. These include the new Logan County Senate District race that will occur on Valentine’s Day, Guthrie and Edmond school board elections, and the
Oklahoma presidential primary.
As you may be aware, due to the recent redistricting process, many of the area’s precinct lines have been redrawn. This may mean your polling place has changed. A series of area maps have been placed
online at hd31.org/189. Under each map is a description and polling location for each precinct. If you are in any doubt as to the location of your precinct’s polls, simply go to hd31.org/189 and find your
address on the precinct map. Then scroll down to the numbered description of your precinct and you will see the address of your polling place.
Several thousand voters now have new polling locations. Here are some of the major changes:
Voters living in the area from Waterloo to Coffee Creek from Western to May and from Waterloo to Covell between May and Rockwell will vote at the Deer Creek Middle School at Covell and MacArthur.
A new precinct has been created for the area from Waterloo to Charter Oak between Kelly and Hwy. 74, and from Charter Oak to Seward between Western and Hwy 74. This precinct will vote at the new fire station at Charter Oak and Santa Fe. It’s important that you do not confuse this with the old fire station at Simmons and Bryant where residents from this area used to vote.
Those living between Sooner and Coltrane from Simmons to Seward who previously voted at the Hispanic Baptist Church will now vote at the Lakeview Baptist Church at Seward and Sooner Roads.
People living between Midwest and I-35 from Waterloo to Forrest Hills who previously voted at Woodcrest Baptist Church will now vote at the Hispanic Baptist Church located on Sooner Road, one half mile south of Charter Oak.
All those who previously voted at Lakeview Baptist Church will now vote at Community Church at Seward and I-35.
Almost all voters who live between Pine and Indian Meridian from Forrest Hills to Prairie Grove will also vote at Community Church, as will those who live between Midwest and Douglas north of Charter Oak.
Those living east of Indian Meridian from Waterloo all the way north to County Road 75 will now vote at the Meridian Fire Station.
Those living between Post and Indian Meridian between Waterloo and Forrest Hills will now vote at Woodcrest Baptist Church located on Douglas just north of Charter Oak instead of their old polling place at LaGrande farm.
People living north of Harrison Street in Guthrie who used to vote at the Assembly of God on South Division will now vote at First Christian Church on Noble.
