The City of Guthrie received good news on their sales tax numbers as well as firework permits over the holiday weekend.
The sales tax deposit this month was $378,085 for an increase of 17.33 percent over the $322,418 that was collected for the same month last year. The monthly average for the year is $337,085.
Due to the burn ban last year, Guthrie residents were able to utilize the residential fireworks permit approved by the city council in 2011.
The program proved to be popular with 124 permits sold.
“It also accomplished the goal of providing a safer and more controlled atmosphere for responsible residents to enjoy popping fireworks,” City Manager Matt Mueller said.
“There were very few issues with permit holders and the only enforcement actions that had to be taken were on some folks from out of town who were illegally discharging fireworks at Liberty Lake,” Mueller concluded.
