The Oklahoma Department of Transportation began moving utilities last week as they continue to draw closer in replacing the viaduct on Guthrie’s west side.
ODOT officials tell Guthrie News Page replacement of the utilities is scheduled for 210 days, but are hopeful they can be completed before the deadline.
The reconstruction of the Highway 33 bridge over the Cottonwood Creek, from 12th Street to just east of Division St., is expected to go out for bidding this fall with construction in early spring (2017).
Along with the new bridge, ODOT says there will be improvements of the vertical sight distance, reduction of road closures due to flooding of Highway 33 (Noble Ave.) and widening the bridge to four-lanes.
“We are excited to see the progress,” a ODOT spokesperson said.
ODOT began tearing down homes on the west side in June for the $15.2 million project. In total, 23 commercial and 12 residential relocations were removed for the project. Related story: ODOT begins demo work for viaduct project
One structure remains in the way of utilities, but ODOT says that area (near the viaduct) will be taken down during construction. Two other buildings remain to be demolished near 9th Street (gas station and the old Benton’s Service Center).
