Off-duty Guthrie firefighter, family involved in collision on S. Division

The vehicle that was driving northbound collided with an off-duty firefighter's vehicle came to rest at a marquee sign of a local quick lube business.

An off-duty Guthrie firefighter, his wife, and their newborn baby were transported to a hospital Sunday evening following a collision on South Division Street.

The collision, in which airbags deployed in each vehicle, occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. in the 700 block of South Division Street, just north of Sonic.

According to a witness at the scene, a northbound vehicle had passed the witness at a high rate of speed in the 1600 block of South Division several blocks before the collision.

The witness said the off-duty firefighter was traveling southbound when the northbound vehicle crossed over and struck their vehicle head-on.

Guthrie Police and Guthrie EMS responded to the scene.

The firefighter and his family did not appear to have suffered major injuries at the scene. All three were transported by Guthrie EMS to a hospital for further evaluation.

The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene and was observed undergoing what appeared to be a breath test administered by law enforcement. A short time later, the male driver was taken into custody by Guthrie Police.

It was not immediately known Sunday evening why the driver was taken into custody or what charges, if any, may be filed in connection with the incident.

Authorities had not released additional information regarding the investigation as of Sunday evening.

Southbound lanes were blocked for several minutes until the roadway was cleared.

Guthrie News Page will update this story as additional information becomes available.
