OHP releases report on fatality accident north of Guthrie

One man was killed and a woman is in critical condition following an accident near the Logan and Payne counties on I-35.

Just after 12 p.m. on Saturday, Joy D. Mora, 35, of Blackwell (Okla.), was driving a 2008 Chevrolet southbound in the outside lane when she swerved left and departed the roadway left striking the guardrail and cable barrier, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

In a troopers report, the vehicle rolled one time and landed on its wheels in the northbound lane. Mora was pinned for approximately 15 minutes before being extricated by the Guthrie Fire Department. Mora was shortly later transported by a medical helicopter to OU Medical Center. She was admitted in critical condition with head and trunk internal injuries.

The passenger, Austin Alexander, 25, of Blackwell, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene from head and trunk internal injuries.

Troopers say neither victim was wearing a seatbelt.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Traffic was at a standstill for several minutes for both helicopters to land in the interstate and for workers to clear the roadway.
