A 20-year-old Oklahoma City man was killed on Interstate 35 Friday evening in a three-vehicle accident.
The accident occurred on the highway’s southbound lane at mile marker 161 approximately two miles north of Guthrie at 5:30 p.m.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Isaias H. Rivas was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup southbound, along side a 2012 Freightliner, when he changed lanes unsafely from the outside lane to the inside lane striking the semi truck and a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox.
The report states the pickup truck entered the center median striking the cable barrier and traveled into the northbound lanes causing the truck to overturn an undetermined amount of times before coming to rest on its wheels.
Isaias was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries. He was later transported to the State’s Medical Examiner.
His passenger, Eiby Giron, 19, of Oklahoma City was transported by Guthrie EMS to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was admitted in fair condition with head, arm and leg injuries.
The drivers of the semi-truck and Equinox, along with one passenger, were not injured.
