OKC radio station honors Guthrie music teacher

Chris DiGiovanniIt appeared to be a normal start to the day at Fogarty Elementary on Tuesday morning. However, an Oklahoma City radio disc jockey sneaked his way into the auditorium to surprise the music teacher.

The “Magic Man” with KMGL (104.1 FM) surprised Chris DiGiovanni (Ms. D) with the announcement that she was chosen as the Magic Teacher of the Week. The announcement was delivered live on the air.

The feature awards a teacher each week and now DiGiovanni is in the running for the Teacher of the Year. Along with a chance to win the $500 top prize, DiGiovanni received a gift card from Digiprint, Homeland, The Market at Quail Springs and Mardel. If you’re wanting to teach students the magic of music, and perhaps one day be in the runnings to receive the reward, you might want to look into music education degrees from universities like Rutgers Online.

“Very humbled and honored this morning in the auditorium. I was completely speechless —and that doesn’t happen often,” DiGiovanni said who will retire from education at the end of the school year with over 30 years in the classroom.

In addition to her classroom duties, DiGiovanni teaches an after school honor choir who perform at various events throughout the year.
