STILLWATER, Okla. – Parents and new students attending Meridian Technology Center have the chance to get a jump-start on their time at Tech on August 12 with Parent and New Student Orientation.
“We want parents and new students who are attending Meridian to feel like they are a part of the school from day one,” said Jeanie Zagar, Executive Director of Career Planning/Career Development at Meridian. “Our Parent and New Student Orientation experience gives everyone a chance to become more familiar with the full range of opportunities available at Tech and what to expect while they’re here.”
Parents and new students can learn about student organizations, career readiness certificates, earning high school credit and getting college credit after graduating from Tech. Additionally, students can order a Meridian T-shirt, sign up for bus transportation and get their parking sticker before school starts on August 14.
“This is an informational event for students and parents to further explore the opportunities available at Meridian such as CareerTech student organizations and the ACT prep class that we offer Meridian students in the fall,” Zagar explained. “It’s also a time for students and parents to have time to talk with instructors and other Meridian staff to be better prepared for their first day of classes.”
Parent and New Student Orientation will take place on August 12 from 3 – 6 pm in the Skywalk. The event is come and go, with a parent meeting with Meridian’s superintendent occurring at 4 and 5 in the Fred A. Shultz Conference Center. Guests may use parking lots near their program. For a map showing current construction and available parking visit meridiantech.edu/map.
High school students in Meridian’s district can attend at no cost with books provided once school starts. Free transportation is also available with pickup locations at district high schools.
High school students attend Meridian either in the morning or afternoon session and receive high school credit. College credit is also available in many programs. Last year one in five eligible high school students attended Meridian for skills training.
Adult students can complete a career training program in one or two years. They are responsible for transportation and educational expenses. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
