Permissive traffic lights approved for downtown Guthrie

Two of the three downtown traffic lights will soon have permissive traffic lights for motorists.

The Guthrie city council approved the agenda item on Tuesday evening at their regular scheduled meeting with a 5-0 vote.

The updated intersections will both be on Division St. at Harrison Ave. and Oklahoma Ave.

The traffic lights will be upgraded with flashing yellow lights to allow motorists to turn off of Division St. A flashing yellow arrow allows a left turn, but drivers must yield to oncoming traffic or pedestrians.

Traffic Signals Inc was the lowest of three bidders with a price tag of $74,890. The total expense was approved for $84,890 to include engineering costs.

The project also includes new wiring, replacement of roadway luminaries and signage.

Installation of the traffic lights is expected to be completed by Sept. 30.
