Piedmont shutouts J High Jays in nine innings of play

J High BaseballThe offense for the Guthrie Junior High baseball summer team was held in check by Piedmont right-hander Dillon Hampton inside Squires Field on Wednesday evening.

In the first game, Hampton recorded 13 of the of the 15 outs via the strikeout en route to an 8-0 win for the Wildcats.

In game two, Piedmont, again, kept the Jays off the board with an 11-0 win.

The Jays got two extra base hits from left-hander Nolan Gagnon off of Hampton. In the first inning he delivered a two-out double and in his next at bat crushed the baseball over the centerfielder’s head to the wall for a triple.

Piedmont struck early with three runs in the first inning and opened the game with five runs in the third.

Johnny Scroggins and Josh Rains combined to throw all five innings and scattered nine hits.
