Police officer arrested for public intoxication while in uniform

A Guthrie police officer was arrested Friday evening after he allegedly arrived for his shift at the police department intoxicated and smelling of alcohol. The officer has been suspended pending an outcome of the investigation.

Bryan Crumb (GPD)A Lieutenant in the Criminal Investiations with the Guthrie Police Department was called to the station and placed Guthrie Police Officer Bryan Lee Crumb, 34, under arrest at 9:23 p.m. for consuming or inhaling intoxicants in public places and carrying a weapon under the influence of alcohol.

An officer believed Crumb was intoxicated and notified a supervisor.

According to an affidavit, the investigator states when he arrived to the station Crumb was in the passenger seat of his vehicle and in full police uniform. The detective removed Crumb’s gun from his holster and secured it by removing a live round from the chamber as well as a magazine.

Crumb told the investigator he had a drink before going to sleep and slept for four hours before coming to work. The detective confirmed Crumb smelled of alcohol and a smell of strong cologne. Crumb stated he had not slept well in days and was in a lot of stress from his divorce.

Crumb denied a breathalyzer test and was later arrested. He was jailed at the Logan County Jail and shortly after bonded out.

In Feb. 2015, through an Open Records request, Guthrie News Page obtained a document stating Crumb was suspended without pay for two weeks, a demotion, unannounced testing for one year to be evaluated for drug and alcohol abuse. At that time, former Guthrie City Manager did not release the details on why the officer was suspended.
