Speeds reach 120 mph in overnight pursuit; suspect leads police to downtown Edmond

One person is in custody after he led several police officers in a 16-minute vehicle pursuit, which started in Guthrie and finished in downtown Edmond. Speeds reached as high as 120 mph and the suspect taken to the hospital after he ran into a patrol car.

Pursuit 01082016 (3)At 11:08 p.m. on Friday, a Guthrie police officer attempted to pull over a 1995, black Chevrolet pick-up truck for an expired (Dec. 2015) tag near the intersection of Davis Road and Prairie Grove. However, the suspect drove off and the pursuit was on.

The suspect, Jeromy Tipton Ross, 35, of Dill City Okla, went west on Prairie Grove and eventually making his way to Broadway and driving south. Officers in the pursuit reported speeds as high as 120 miles on the two-lane highway.

Once in Edmond, stop sticks were deployed and struck the truck’s tires near Danforth and Boulevard. However, Ross continued on to 15th street before heading north on Broadway.

The pursuit ended at 5th and Broadway behind the Whataburger restaurant. Ross vacated the truck and took off running, but ran into a Logan County deputy’s truck. He was quickly taken into custody.

Pursuit 01082016 (1)Officers recovered two guns, meth and pills from the suspect. Ross was taken to an Edmond hospital for further evaluation and was released at around 4:30 a.m. He was then transported back to Guthrie and booked into jail on six charges, including eluding an officer, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, drug possession, operating vehicle without proper license plate, operating vehicle without a driver’s license and no insurance.

Along with two Guthrie police officers, several deputies with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Edmond Police Department aided in the chase.

On Monday, bond was set at $75,000 and Ross’ next court date is set for Feb. 25 at 9 a.m.
