Rankings have the Lady Jays moving up

With their performance in the Duncan Tournament last week, the Guthrie Lady Jays have cracked the top 15 in the latest girls 5A rankings.

Guthrie, who started the season ranked outside of the top 20, enters at No. 15 in the week eight rankings with a 3-2 overall record. Both losses have come to highly ranked teams in Shawnee (No. 4) and Norman North (No. 10).

Despite moving up in the rankings, there are still four fellow Suburban Conference foe’s ranked ahead of the Jays: Shawnee, Western Heights (6th), Carl Albert (8th), and Deer Creek (9th). Guthrie has already defeated Western Heights, in overtime, earlier this season.

Head coach Terry Carris and the Lady Jays will look to improve on their ranking with Noble, on Tuesday, and the Chickasha Tournament this week. The three-day tournament begins Thursday and ends Saturday.

Booker T. Washington remains the No. 1 team followed by McGuinness and East Central.
