It was the freshmen basketball teams turn to take in the Guthrie – Carl Albert rival series and will be one the Titans will not soon forget.

First it was the Lady Titans controlling the entire game en route to a 57-12 win and in the nightcap the Titans started quick and finished quick for a 65-47 win.

The Titan boys, who held a distinct height and weight advantage over the smaller Jays, jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first 3:07 of the game forcing Guthrie coach Londaryl Perry to call a time-out. Out of the time-out, however, Guthrie went on their own run of 6-2 to pull within two, 12-10.

It seemed as the Titans could not miss a shot in the opening quarter with the first 18 points all coming within 15 feet. The final three Titan points came at the end of the quarter buzzer off the glass from the left-wing and Carl Albert led 21-12.

Carl Albert outscored the Jays 18-13 in the second quarter and finished the half with 39 points. The Titan head coach said at halftime, ” that is the best first half we have played all year.” He mentioned his team had averaged in the mid 20’s in their previous games.

Both teams had scoring duo’s. Woods and Warren for Carl Albert combined for 33 points while Kai Callins and Bailey Nichols combined for 31 points.

Rounding out the scoring for the Jays was Jeremy Brown with six, Reed Roberts four, Jacob Chappell four, and Dakota Leach had two.

Lady Jays remain winless

Guthrie just could not get going from the get go as the Lady Titans jumped out to a 15-2 lead and never looked back. The Lady Jays could manage just five points at the half.

Cassidy Jones continues to led the team in scoring and finished with six followed by Kimmesha Scott’s five, and Asia Johnson finished with one point.
