The City of Guthrie and Department of Transportation were seen out Monday morning painting streets with school signs and a turn lane on Noble Ave.
ODOT laid out the future crosswalks and turn lanes at the intersection of Noble Ave. at Walnut Street.
The 10 foot east and west turn lanes on Noble (Highway 33) will help alleviate school traffic in the morning and afternoon drives.
A rectangular, rapid flashing beacon has been ordered and is expected to arrive shortly after the start of school in September. ODOT will install the solar-powered controls and lights.
Currently, the speed limit is set at 30 mph due to construction, and will remain 30 mph after construction is complete.
Meanwhile, City crews painted “School Slow” signs on the roadways and were refreshing the crosswalks near all the school buildings.
The City’s Street Department will be working close with the Guthrie Police Department by placing two speed radar trailers in various locations to assist with slowing traffic.
City officials say with the speed radar trailers they are hopeful to make those areas a much safer environment for the kids and parents.
Both speed radar trailers were 100 percent funded through the City’s latest safe routes to school grant.
Guthrie Public Schools begin classes on Tuesday, September 4.
