School staff congregates for upcoming school year

Guthrie Public Schools held their convocation at the Guthrie Junior High Thursday morning as they prepare to open the school doors for the first day of classes on Tuesday, August 20.

After coffee and doughnuts, Chad Wilson, Director of Personnel and Secondary Education, recognized the new teachers to the staff .

Steve Hanna spoke next for the Guthrie Education Foundation and was followed by Kim Barrett, who was named last years Teacher of the Year.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson took the stage last as he talked about “what’s next.”

Simpson said he was looking forward to putting together and passing a bond issue out in the near future, communicating with the community as well as grade level schools.

Also, on hand for the convocation was the high school band and JROTC.
