Specialist Manning, a Guthrie resident, has been over seas for the last 9 months, and is home for the next two weeks before going back and returning in March 2012.

Manning wanted to surprise his family, and he did.

Manning first went to Cotteral Elementary where he walked in on his 5-year-old son’s (Leaun) classroom and was quickly greeted with a wave, a shout of “daddy”, hugs and nose kisses.

Next it was off to greet 3-year-old son, Christopher, just doors down and was again greeted with hugs and a jumping up-and-down Christopher.

After the three spoke with each other it was time for one last surprise.

Specialist Manning and Leaun joined Christopher on his bus normal bus trip home at 11:30, where his mother Kristy awaits him everyday.

However, Guthrie News Page and KFOR-TV was ahead of the bus and pretended to be doing a story on vehicles speeding in front of her house. Kristy had a legit gripe, but that story is for another day.

As usual, Kristy went to the steps of the bus, picked Christopher up and thanked the bus driver. Only his time as she walked up the gravel drive way, she quickly turned around to Specialist Manning in his fatigues and was quickly stunned by grabbing her cheeks with her hands and shouting.

The family plans on spending quality time in the days ahead, including next week’s Bedlam game, before Manning returns back to the war.
