Stay out of jail — Wear That Button!

Bookmark and Share

This year the ‘89er Committee is bringing back a favorite from the rich traditions of past ‘89er Celebrations —- jail time for not wearing “The Button”.

89er JailStacey Frazier, Chairwoman of the “Stay Out of Jail” venue explains it best.

“We are hoping to have a great amount of fun, raise a little money to help defray the costs of the various ‘89er events, and bring back a little bit of history”.

Celebration Week will see a number of specially deputized marshals “arresting” individuals who are not wearing the ‘89er Button. The marshals will also be serving warrants drawn up by friends and family on very serious charges such as “not eating all your brussel sprouts” or “being too nice to too many people”.

The sentencing will be accomplished by special judges including the Territorial Governor, His Honor Justin Fortney, at noon right next to a temporary jail set up right in front of the Post Office in downtown Guthrie. Frazier went on to say, “There will also be the possibility of purchasing a “Get Out of Jail” card, if you want further insurance against any jail time.” The processing of a warrant, the assignment of a “court date and time” and of course the results of the sentencing will be followed on www.GuthrieNewsPage.com and Facebook at “89er days”.

Warrants may be purchased at the Guthrie Chamber of Commerce: $2 for a basic warrant; $5 for a warrant and photo (to be seen on face book); and $10 for the entire process including the sentencing. The sentencing, with very special judges, will be conducted daily at noon in front of the Post Office. In addition to the warrants, “get out of jail free” tickets may also be purchased the Chamber offices. Stacey concluded “We promise “jail time” will be exciting —- but do not try to do this at home!” For more information on how to put someone “in jail” or how to keep yourself “out of jail” you may also contact Stacey at 517-8533.

Information on all these activities and more may be found on “89erdays.com” web site or by calling 282-2589. You may also receive information and share happenings on face book pages (89er days; or Stake Your Claim 5k) for pictures, sharing and comments.
