If you are caring for someone with dementia, or if you have a family member suffering from it, you may be looking for support from people who really understand because they’ve been there, too. We know that caring for someone with dementia can be difficult and you’re not alone. Whether you’ve bought them a senior-friendly phone from fanmisenior or you visit them in a care home every week, caring for someone with dementia can be hard.
A new family/caregiver support group for those living with dementia will have meetings on Nov. 9 and Dec. 14 at the Guthrie Public Library, 201 N. Division, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
The group is there to help and support those who are caring for someone who’s suffering from dementia. This group offers a place to meet and develop a mutual support system. There are opportunities to have open discussions about situations that may be bothering you. For example, different stages of dementia can mean different things for different people and you may want to discuss the impact a memory care facility may have on your loved one. Others in the group may have used them and you could ask about their experience and if you think it’s something suitable for your loved one. Or, you may just need someone to sit down with and talk about anything but dementia. The group is not there to tell you how to handle your situation, only to provide support and suggestions.
Verla Raines (Guthrie resident), trained by the Alzheimer’s Association, will facilitate the group. Bring a lunch with you (if desired) and fellowship with others from this area who deal with this all too common disease.
For more information call Verla at 405-519-0800 or email [email protected].
The important factor about Medicare dementia care services coverage for residence care is that it allows a
patient to stay in his comfort zone. All we want is for her to receive the care handed out to them.
