Update: Toddler drowns at residential pool

Updated on April 10, 2023 — An Easter family outing turned tragic after an 18-month-old male was found unresponsive in a pool Sunday afternoon at around 5 p.m.

Sgt. Anthony Gibbs with the Guthrie Police Department said the child and other children were over at a relative’s family home when he went missing.

As family members searched the property, a gap in the pool’s cover was found where the child was located.

CPR was administered as Guthrie EMS was en route. The child was taken to Mercy Hospital Logan County where he was pronounced dead.

Gibbs said the child had climbed over onto the deck.

While an official police report has not been finished, Gibbs says there is no suspected foul play in this sad case.

“This was a really tragic accident,” Gibbs said in a phone interview.

It was not known how long the child had been missing.

A Guthrie toddler died Sunday evening as the result of drowning.

Guthrie EMS and police responded to the 400 block of W. Industrial Road before 5 p.m. Sunday.

The 1-year-old was transported to Mercy Hospital Logan County.

The toddler was pronounced dead, according to fire officials with the Guthrie Fire Department.

Investigators were at the scene, but a statement or further details were not made available at the scene.
