Tractor Supply Co. coming to Guthrie in Summer 2016

The City of Guthrie was pleased to announce on Tuesday a national retailer will soon be building a brand new store at the popular I-35 and Highway 33 corridor.

Tractor Supply Co. will soon be moving dirt at 722 Heather Road, which is north of the Sleep Inn hotel, for a 15,000 square feet of outdoor display, along with 19,000 square feet of traditional indoor retail space.

“The City is excited to welcome Tractor Supply to Guthrie,” Guthrie City Manager Bruce Johnson said. “The new store will provide another option for Guthrie residents to shop local which will in turn benefit city services from sales tax collected.”

Construction will begin in Spring 2016 with an expected opening coming in late summer.

Tractor Supply lists five major product categories. The livestock and pet products category accounted for 44 percent of the company’s sales in 2014. In 2004, when the company reported revenues of more than $1.7 billion, Fortune magazine named Tractor Supply to its list of the 100 fastest growing businesses. As of December 26, 2015, Tractor Supply Company operated 1,488 stores in 49 states and operated an online store.

The company celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2013.

Mitchell Brothers Construction paid permit fees on behalf of GOK, LLC, which will maintain ownership of the property, while securing a lease from the Tractor Supply Co. brand.

Community and Economic Development Director, Cody Mosley, noted that the area is seeing a lot of attention.

“The new Love’s, along with Tractor Supply, show that this area is a great spot for retail growth along I-35,”

Mosley added Lucky Mini Storage received a special use permit from the City earlier in 2016 to construct new storage units along with plans for future development on the north side of College with visibility from I-35.

GREAT NEWS!! Not only TSC has opened, but Galleria Furniture has bought the mall strip on South Division, across from Wal-Mart, bringing new business to a stagnant area of of our home town.

Just in the last couple of years, we have added a Valero station and Guthrie Travel Stop, that includes Chick Fill-A, on the south side of HI-33, as well as a Love’s Truck stop, that includes service bays for all big rigs and other larger trucks, with a Carl’s Junior restaurant. Add to this we now have five major motel’s!!

All of these businesses located at the north I-35 exit! They all go with the recent purchase of the LAZY-E Ranch Arena event center. The new owners gutted the arena, as well as most of the other out buildings, upgrading as they went. There are least a dozen events scheduled between summer 2016 through end of 2017.

Guthrie is “finally” growing in the right direction. Let’s hope city officals louse up this positive growth for our town.
