On January 13, 2012, members of the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) met to decide which project applications to fund for the four-year Transportation Improvement Program. District 2 submitted four applications and two scored high enough to be approved for funding.
The highest scoring application was for repaving Douglas from Waterloo to Forrest Hills. This project was approved for $1,244,400 in funding and is scheduled for the year 2013. District 2 already had a Surface Transportation Program grant through the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma (ACCO) in the amount of $1,000,000 for this project, but the funding would not have been available until 2014. We made the application to ACOG, hoping for faster funding, and are pleased that this project was approved. Since we will not be using the STP money from ACCO for Douglas, Logan County will now be able to submit another application to ACCO for a new STP project.
The second application awarded funding by ACOG for the four-year plan was for resurfacing Charter Oak from Pine to Douglas. These two miles were allotted $583,200 for the year 2016. Paving Charter Oak is an important part of the overall plan to improve the county’s road infrastructure. With the new census data coming out soon, possibly upgrading the road status in this area to an urban zone status, we will be working to get this project funded earlier than 2016 and extend it one more mile to Sooner. This project will also help illustrate the need for entrance and exit ramps from Charter Oak onto
I-35.
