The United Way of Logan County kicked their 2012 fundraising campaign off at the American Legion Building Thursday afternoon.
Dowding, the chairperson for the 2012 campaign, announced the goal and is the highest goal ever set. Dowding revealed 30% has already been raised with $41,809.54 from 1o business organizations.
Last year United Way set a goal of $191,000 and the previous year was $186,000.
United Way President Steve Gentling said, “this is not a challenge, but a oppurtunity.”
United Way of Logan County was founded in 1986 by local volunteers seeking a unified solution to critical needs in the community. Last year alone, United Way helped 3,000 more Logan County residents than the previous year for a total of 17,000 residents.
Donations, or gifts, helps 10 agencies in Logan County including: Partner Agencies Serving Logan County, American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, Consumer Credit Counseling Services, Girls Scouts, God’s Food Bank, Logan Community Services, Logan County Council of Aging, New Horizons and YMCA.
The kickoff began with complimentary hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks followed by a skit by county coaches and players of different sports.
