United Way kicks off season with six digit goal

The United Way of Logan County kicked their 2011 fundraising campaign off at the American Legion Building Thursday afternoon.

Barry Anderson announced a goal of $189,000 for the United Way of Logan County.

Barry Anderson, chairperson for the 2011 campaign, announced the goal of  $189,000 and the dollar amount represents the highest goal ever set. Last year United Way set a goal of $186,000 and received almost $192,000 in donations and helped 14,000 citizens in need.

United Way of Logan County was founded in 1986 by local volunteers seeking a unified solution to critical needs in the community.

Donations, or gifts, helps 11 agencies in Logan County including: Partner Agencies Serving Logan County, American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, Community Action Agency, Consumer Credit Counseling Services, Girls Scouts, God’s Food Bank, Logan Community Services, Logan County Council of Aging, New Horizons and YMCA.

The kickoff began with complimentary hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks followed by a skit “The League of Community Crusaders” .
