VFW evacuated after smoke fills up building

Approximately 20 people were forced out of the Guthrie VFW on Monday evening after the building began filling up with smoke.

The Guthrie Fire Department was dispatched to the building, located at 5223 S. Division, after 9 p.m. for a smoke investigation.

As firefighters entered the building they could see smoke, but were unable to find flames. However, in the back room, a bundle of towels were found smoldering.

It’s unknown what caused the towels to begin smoking.

There was no damage to the building. Firefighters were able to blow the smoke out of the building and guests were able to return back inside the building.
