VFW recognizes local law enforcement, firefighters and paramedics with awards luncheon

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Sooner Post 4578 hosted an appreciation and awards luncheon for law enforcement, firefighters and EMT throughout Logan County at the Guthrie VFW on Saturday afternoon.

It was a full house as many were recognized for their dedication and commitment of duty to the community and county they serve.

Also on hand to show support was Oklahoma Senator AJ Griffin, County Commissioners Marven Goodman and Mike Pearson.

“The VFW thanks you for your dedication to duty and your commitment to your community, we all live under one motto and that is to serve and protect,” Post Commander Kody Ellis said.

The following first responders received Certificate’s of Appreciation in serving others in their community:

Capt. Tom Kutay, Dep. Mark Steele and Sgt. Marcus Williams from the Logan County Sherrif’s Office (LCSO).

The Guthrie Police Department (GPD) was recognized with Communications Officer Heather Hickman, Lt. Mike Loya and Officer Filemon Vasquez.

Capt. Ryan Adams was represented by the GFD.

The VFW Community Service Award for outstanding commitment and dedication of duty went to LCSO Communications Officer Leisha Knight.

The Firefighter of the Year award went to GFD’s Ryan Reeves

The EMT Commitment to Duty went to GFD’s Blake Braden

Commitment to Job, Community and the serving of others before themselves was presented to GPD’s Officer Jonathan “JW” Williams and LCSO Sheriff Damon Deveraux.
