Video: DHS takes the plunge for National Foster Care Awareness Month; calls out GPD, LCSO

May is National Foster Care Awareness Month and everyone is being asked to take the plunge, including members of the Guthrie Police Department and Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

Members of the Logan County Department of Human Services took the plunge and before doing so called out local law enforcement officers.

The awareness month was recognized and celebrated in 1988 with President Ronald Reagan.

Currently in Oklahoma there are 8,692 children in care and nearly 100 of those children are placed in a shelter.

The month set aside to acknowledge foster parents, family members, volunteers, mentors, policymakers, child welfare professionals, and other members of the community who help children and youth in foster care find permanent homes and connections.
