Video: Shelby Vreeland named GPS student of the month

Thanks to Shelby Vreeland spearheading a Valentine’s special delivery, nearly 200 residents inside Guthrie nursing homes received Valentine cards.

Guthrie Public Schools and Foundation Insurance teamed up and found the latest school district’s student of the month. On Monday evening the second winner was announced at the Board of Education meeting.

Blake Wimsey with Foundation Insurance introduced Vreeland, a student at Guthrie High School.

She was nominated by her creative writing teacher Jeff Jordan.

Vreeland, with the help of her peers, created and wrote the cards and personally delivered them.

Although there are no specific grade requirements, the student must be in good-standing in the classroom to be eligible. Overall, the district says they are searching for students who go above and beyond in the way they treat their peers and teachers.

Wimsey congratulated Vreeland and presented her with a $65 gift certificate to Stacy’s Place.
