After 10 years of hitting the streets, the final “The See Spot Run” will take place on May 12 in downtown Guthrie.
The annual running event was created in memory of Chris Cowden, a long-time Guthrie resident and animal rights advocate who was tragically killed in a motorcycle on May 17, 2008.
The race benefits the nonprofit Free to Live Sanctuary.
In the past nine years of “The See Spot Run” event, more than 3,000 runners from all over the state of Oklahoma have raised more than $40,000 for the animal rescue.
“It has always been our goal to end this annual event at the 10-year mark,” co-founder Teri Cowden-Draper said. “The participation and amount raised for Free to Live has exceeded our expectations, and we are very extremely grateful and humbled by all of the ongoing support throughout these past nine years.”
The procedure will remain the same, with a start time of 5:30 p.m., for the 5K, 10K and Kids’ Fun Runs. A celebration at the finish line will include festive food and drink at the Hoboken Coffee Roasters.
