Watch: Duehning named GPS Student of the Month

Fogarty Elementary student Teagan Duehning was named the Guthrie Public Schools Student of the Month for October. She was recognized surrounded by her family at the Board of Education meeting on Monday.

GPS and Blake Wimsey (pictured left) with Foundation Insurance have teamed up for the third straight year to honor students for the character traits. Teachers and faculty select students who have displayed behavior deserving of recognition.

Teagan, a third grade student in Christy Gilbert’s classroom, was selected for the character trait of responsibility.

“Teagan loves being an assistant and serving others,” Mrs. Gilbert said. “She is extremely trustworthy.”

Gilbert says Teagan may appear reserved but has a sweet soul.

“Teagan is thorough to the last detail, respectful and patient.

Outside of the classroom, Teagan’s teacher says she is impressed with her athletic talent and her ability to play the guitar.

Teagan says she enjoys playing softball, helping others and music.

Wimsey congratulated Teagan and presented her with a certificate and a $65 gift card to Stacy’s Place.

“You can go enjoy a nice dinner at Stacy’s Place,” Wimsey said. Fogarty Principal Marsha Todd (pictured right) quickly responded in a playful manner “with your principal.”

Although there are no specific grade requirements, the student must be in good-standing in the classroom to be eligible. Overall, the district says they are searching for students who go above and beyond in the way they treat their peers and teachers.
