Watch: Kalie King named GPS Student of the Month

Sixth grade student Kalie King was recognized as the Student of the Month for Guthrie Public Schools at the March meeting for the Board of Education.

Kalie, who enjoys swimming and outdoor activities, attends Guthrie Upper Elementary School and was nominated by her teacher Shana Fields for the character trait of kindness.

“Every time I see Kalie, she is trying to comfort or encourage someone else,” Fields said. “Walking down the hall or in class, she will have her arm around someone giving that person a hug or encouragement.”

Kalie always meets expectations and goes above them with a smile on her face.

“She is eager to help in any way that she is asked, and even looks for opportunities to be helpful,” Fields added.

Guthrie Public Schools and Blake Wimsey (pictured left) with Foundation Insurance have teamed up for the third straight year to honor students for the character traits. Teachers and faculty select students who have displayed behavior deserving of recognition.

For her efforts, Wimsey presented Jimmy with a $65 gift card to Stacy’s Place.

Although there are no specific grade requirements, the student must be in good-standing in the classroom to be eligible. Overall, the district says they are searching for students who go above and beyond in the way they treat their peers and teachers.
