Wreaths Across America to honor Veterans at Summit View Cemetery

The Guthrie High School JROTC program, alongside the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and other community partners, will host Wreaths Across America at Summit View Cemetery on Saturday, December 14.

The mission of Wreaths Across America is to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach the next generation the value of freedom. This heartfelt community event will involve the placement of wreaths on the graves of fallen heroes at Summit View Cemetery, where 1,590 veterans are at rest, including Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Oscar J. Upham.

A remembrance and recognition ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at “the pond” within Summit View Cemetery. Mayor Steve Gentling will serve as the guest speaker for this solemn occasion. Following the ceremony, community volunteers will help place wreaths on the graves of veterans throughout the cemetery.

The public is warmly invited to attend the Wreaths Across America ceremony and participate in honoring those who have served. Those interested in volunteering can register at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/OK0114P. Simply select the “volunteer” button and follow the prompts.
