89er Committee begins search for 2012 Queen

Bookmark and Share

One of the first and most important activities of the 2012 ‘89er Committee is to kick off the process of selecting a Queen for all the 2012 events.

Guthrie's 1939 89er Queen Eddie Lou Halsey was the second queen to be named..

Cheryl Tarter, Chair of the Queen Selection Committee and past queen herself, is excited about the process this year.  “We are starting with a “Queen Clinic” open to all young ladies ages 15 to 24 who are interested in competing for the title of “89er Queen”.

The clinic will be held Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 1pm to 5pm at the Eclipse Stables, east of Guthrie on Hwy 105.  The “Clinic” will offer tips from previous queen recipients and cover areas such as horsemanship skills, public speaking, 89er history, appropriate dress for the competition, etiquette and 89er Queen responsibilities.”

The queen competition, which will be held in mid February, is open to all young ladies in the 15-24 age group.  There are no residency requirements.  If you are interested in more information about the “Clinic” and/or the actual application process please contact Cheryl at 405-659-5659 or cheryl_ tarter@sbcglobal.net.  Information is also available on the 89ers web site: www.89erdays.com.
