It took six Logan County jurors nearly two hours to decide the fate of a Guthrie attorney facing two misdemeanor charges.

After two days of listening to testimony, jurors handed down a not guilty and guilty verdict to Jay Trenary.

Trenary, an attorney of 17 years, was found not guilty to the first charge of  domestic abuse on his girlfriend. He faced up to a year of imprisonment, a fine up to a $5,000 fine and or both.

Trenary, who represented himself along with a co-counsel, was found guilty in the second charge of obstructing an officer and was issued a punishment of the maximum $500 fine. Jurors had the option of sending Trenary to the Logan County jail for up to one year.

“Obviously, I am very happy I am not going to jail and still maintain that I am innocent,” Trenary told Guthrie News Page moments after consoling his parents and girlfriend in the courtroom.

Trenary will now consider if he will appeal at the sentencing trial.

“My attorney and I are going to consider our options at this point. We will come back to the sentencing date and at that time we will have an announcement as to our intention to appeal if we are going to appeal.”

The six jurors (four females and two males) deliberated for an hour and 57 minutes and reached their decision at 6:37 p.m on Wednesday.

On the final day of the trial, the state called three officers to the stand that were called to Trenary’s house on the evening of May 28, 2011 in reference to a 911 call made.

The Guthrie police officer that was first called to the scene, arrested Trenary after he refused to obey orders to exit his vehicle. Trenary testified he did not hear the commands due to his stereo being turned up to the max before realizing it was indeed an officer at his door when he was pulled out of the truck.

The state claimed Trenary struggled and wrestled with his alleged victim by hitting her in the face with a pair of car keys causing bodily harm with a small laceration on the bridge of her nose and scratches on both of her arms.

Trenary, who was on the stand for 77 minutes, testified that he never land a hand in anger on her that night.

What a loser. Some day he will really hurt someone and then will be seen for who he really is. A flake attorney who is an abuser of substances…..and a dangerous man.
