Bluejays take third in Kingfisher despite low scores

The Guthrie High School boy’s golf team was clipped by two private schools in the annual Maxwell format tournament at the Kingfisher Golf Course.

Head coach Ric Meshew watched his five players combined to score a 286 and is the lowest raw score for the program in 21 years.

The Maxwell scoring format is all five golfers from the same school play together and the best four scores are recorded for each hole.

Overall, Guthrie shot a 277 and took third place behind Oklahoma Christian School (270) and Heritage Hall (275).

The tournament featured three returning state championship teams with Guthrie (5A), Heritage Hall (4A) and Oklahoma Christian School (3A).

Luke Morgan scored a 67 and finished in third place behind fellow junior golfers Jaxon Dowell and Andrew Goodman, who are both commits for the University of Oklahoma.

The defending 5A champions received solid outings from Luke Roach (70), Bo Robbins (72), Brady Hirzel (77) and Jaxon Hirzel (80).
