Seven candidates have put their names in for the city-wide Guthrie city council and mayor election. One ward will not have a race for the April 7 election after having only one candidate file.

Guthrie City HallThe council may have the same familiar look as the last several months with three incumbents in the running. However, four candidates will attempt to make their path onto the council.

All races are non-partisan and the city council races are for four-year terms while the mayor’s race is for a two-year term.

One guarantee to make the council will be Ed Wood in Ward 1. Wood was the lone candidate to file for the open position that is being vacated by Trey Ayers.

Ayers, who has served eight consecutive years on the council, is re-seeking the mayor’s seat for the second time in two years. He will be challenged by Steven Gentling.

In Ward 2, voters will decide between Clarice Reandeau and Brian Bothroyd.

Reandeau runs for the same position that she was appointed to in Oct. 2014 after Mary Coffin resigned. Bothroyd campaigned for the position in April 2013.

In Ward 3, Sharyl Padgett is attempting to stay in office after she was appointed the position in April 2013. The seat was opened after Sheri Mueller resigned her post after changing residences out of the ward. Padgett will be opposed by Grant Aguirre, who is not a stranger to the position.

Aguirre served as a council member from 1999-2003.
