Chamber Chat: Chamber spreading the word about Guthrie

Bookmark and Share

Here are a few highlights of what we are doing to promote Guthrie for the rest of the year and into 2013. We have a  tile ad on the front page of the  Central Oklahoma Tourism website from this past July through June of 2013. Every month the ad will be different and geared towards an event or festival for that month.

Starting on Labor Day, September 3rd, we will have commercials airing on Lifetime, Travel and National Geographic. They will air for 3 weeks and it will air approximately 130 times in each market (Tulsa and OKC) over the three-week time frame.

We have a 1/2 page ad in the State Travel Guide which is good until the end of this year.

In November we have a media blitz scheduled, the topic is Holiday happenings. There will be 4 to 5 other partners on this trip. We will stop in Pauls Valley, Ada, Sulphur, Ardmore, Duncan, Durant and Marietta. We will have 3 to 5 minutes at each stop to present our press kit and support materials. Some stops we will have the opportunity  to appear live on-air for either television or radio. We will also receive leads from calls made during the blitz.

We will be advertising on the inside front cover of the 2013 Central Oklahoma Frontier Country Travel Guide. They print 85,000 copies (digital version online at oktourism.com)and distribute through Certified folders, Oklahoma Welcome Centers, travel shows, frontier country attractions, Okla. City’s Adventure District attractions, military bases, group travel leaders, travelok.com, Will Rogers World Airport along with media kits, giveaways and promotional packets. (We took the inside cover this year too.)

January, I will be traveling to Charlotte, North Carolina to be a DMO Appointment taker at the American Bus Marketplace 2013.  A DMO is an operator who wishes to sell their product/service with the destination marketing organizations (DMOs).

Then we have two travel shows scheduled in February; a Women’s Expo in Tulsa and a Women’s Expo in Wichita.

Check out the Sept/Oct issue of Oklahoma Today magazine which just came out this week. There are two good looking pages of things to do and see while you are in the Guthrie area!

What do you think about taking some computer classes?  We should be able to keep the price around $30 per class as long as we have a minimum of 5 participants for a 3 hour class. Let me know your thoughts by calling the chamber office at 282-1947.

Since Lucy and I are on the ball this year, the 2013 Calendar of Event cards arrived in the office yesterday afternoon! That means no waiting to check the 2013 schedule of events! This week’s Chamber Coffee is hosted by Dr. Dawn’s Chiropractic, located at 208 W. Oklahoma. We hope to see you there. Visit our web calendar at www.Guthrieok.com to see what’s going on this week!
