After years of planning, meetings, and work behind the scenes, the City of Guthrie broke ground Tuesday on the future Fire Station 2 for the Guthrie Fire Department, a project intended to improve response times and expand coverage throughout its service area.
The new station, located at Division St. and Sooner Rd., carries a price tag of just under $5 million. Completion is expected by the end of July 2027.
The city purchased the land from a nearby church in December 2024, securing the site for the department’s second station.
Guthrie firefighters currently serve more than 500 square miles throughout Logan County from a single station. Fire officials said the additional location will help crews respond more quickly and provide better coverage for the residents they serve.
Fire Station 2 is among several projects underway through Capital Improvement Projects, or CIP, funding. Guthrie voters approved an extension of that funding in April 2024.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, City Manager Eddie Faulkner thanked several groups and individuals for their contributions to the project, including Crossland Construction, GH2 Architects, Myers Engineering, local businesses, Sen. Chuck Hall and the CIP committee.
The fire department also credited the community’s continued support and the efforts of those who spent years helping move the project forward.
The department plans to share updates as construction progresses toward the anticipated July 2027 completion.
