Guthrie’s seventh-grade boys cross country team brought home a championship from the Newcastle XC Meet, winning by 61 points in a field featuring 28 schools and 343 runners.
The Bluejays, coached by Adam Dement, earned the victory against a field made up largely of bigger schools, with six Guthrie runners finishing among the top 28.
Ryan Gann led the way with an individual championship, completing the 1½-mile course in exactly nine minutes.
Loki McKlemore placed sixth, followed closely by Braysen Claud in seventh. Wrigley Dowell finished 17th, John Matthews took 19th, and Mickey Baxter placed 28th.
Gann’s victory and Guthrie’s strong finishes throughout the lineup helped the Bluejays secure the team title and bring championship hardware home from Newcastle.
